As the holiday season approaches and the sun and warmer weather are here, many people like camping. The favourite camping tool which everyone likes to pack is the disposable bbq. This is a dangerous item if it is not disposed of properly. Make sure that it is put out properly and pour water over it, and to make doubly sure, smother it with soil to stop it from reigniting.
Don’t just leave it when you pack up to go home. Take it home with you and dump it in your rubbish or recycle bin. Place it in a plastic bag so you don’t have a mess in your vehicle. In fact, it would be much better if you took all your rubbish home. Yes, some places you visit have rubbish bins available, but with many visitors, these bins soon get full. They can cause a hazard to wildlife when rubbish overflows out of the bins. Glass is another fire hazard with the sun. If the glass gets in direct sunlight, it can soon start a fire. Also, broken glass is a danger to animals and humans alike; definitely take the glass home with you.
Remember you brought your rubbish with you so please take it home, it costs nothing to do this, and you are making the countryside better for everyone.
If you see smoke, this could be the start of a wildfire. Report it. It might be something innocent or, again, the start of a significant incident. The authorities would prefer to check on an utterly innocent report than have to deal with a wildfire out of control which can cause vast amounts of damage and personnel tied up to bring it under control.
Enjoy the countryside.
